I really missed my grandfather.
He was my favorite person
in the whole world.
This photo was taken in a hotel in Chelsea,
when my grandparents came to
visit me in New York in 1999.
He had just finished preparing us hot dogs,
and we paused for a hug.

many years after the photo was taken,
helped me with the pain of his absence.
