Got to have it!
19.4.00 was made as a drawing
in an art history class
in the School of Visual Arts.
I have always loved Wonder Woman.
I remember I erased her face.
I did it because I didn't like how it came out.
Looking back,
I feel this work talks about our pressure
as women to adjust to the inconceivable
idol of body type.
A student who sat behind me
gave me a compliment
that felt good because he was
one of those drawing geniuses.
I love how Aladdin's lamp
is out there too,
as if waiting to make any wish
of hers come true.
Maybe she would have asked,
to not feel the need to hide her face
because she didn't feel pretty enough.
